Program Length: 750 Hours

Program Objective:

This program is designed to prepare students for training and employment in the heating, air-conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation industry.

The Heating, Ventilation, Air-Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC/R) 1 program provides classroom and laboratory
(hands-on) experiences which enable students to become proficient in the installation, repair and maintenance of
air conditioning, refrigeration and heating systems. The laboratory contains a variety of residential central air
conditioning units and industry simulators.

The content of this program includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Practical knowledge of basic electricity and electrical components of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration
    equipment
  • Evaluate, troubleshoot, and wire electrical motors, and their components
  • Use and care of hand tools, power tools, specialized tools, and equipment
  • Use of current industry standards, practices, and techniques
  • Maintenance, testing, and adjustment of various commercial heating and air-conditioning accessories
  • 16 years of age or older and not currently enrolled in any K-12 program

  • Occupational Interest

This program consists of 750 hours and is a planned sequence of instruction consisting of three Occupational Completion Points (OCPs):

  • Completion of all program competencies

Salary

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the average earnings in 2022 for Heating, Air Conditioning, and
Refrigeration Mechanics and Installers were $49,380 annually or $23.74 hourly.

  • In-state: $2,325.00 (750 hours x $2.56= $1,920.00)
  • Out-of-state: $8,092.50 (750 hours x $10.25= $7,687.50)
  • Fees $35.00 x 3 terms = $105.00
  • Books and supplies = $300.00
  • Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
