Pharmacy Technician

About Our Program:

Our program is designed to prepare students for employment as Pharmacy Technicians. The content in this program includes, but is not limited to:

  • Metric system, medical terminology, medicinal drugs, pharmaceutical compounding, sterile techniques
  • IV preparation, maintenance of inventory, initiation of purchase orders, receiving and checking supplies purchased, printing labels, typing prescription labels
  • Delivery of medications, pricing of prescription drug orders and supplies, repackaging of unit dose packages
  • Patient record systems, control records, data processing, and computer application
  • Employability skills, leadership and human relations skills
  • Health and safety, including CPR
  • Insurance Billing
  • HIPAA/Law

Admission Requirements:

  • 16 years of age or older and not currently enrolled in any K-12 program
  • Accredited High school diploma or GED
  • Occupational Interest
  • Background Check and Drug Testing may be required for externship

Program Structure:

This program consists of 1050 hours and is a planned sequence of instruction consisting of four (4) Occupational Completion Points (OCPs)

This program is accredited with Florida Board of Pharmacy. Externship hours are extended for more hand-on experience with local pharmacies

Upon completion of the program, the instructor will provide a certificate to the student verifying that the requirements have been met. Completers who wish to work as Pharmacy Technicians in the State of Florida must register with the Board of Pharmacy (465.014 F.S.).

Full Program Completion:

  • Completion of all program competencies
  • Minimum basic-skills TABE® test: Math 11, Reading 10, Language 10; or
  • National Certification Test (PTCB or NHA)

Salary:

The average wage for this career is $16.77 per hour or $34,880 annually.

Employment Outlook:

Employment of pharmacy technicians is projected to grow 4% from 2020 to 2030.
